Analytical study of abdominal aortic aneurysm diagnosis techniques

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) has increasingly been recognized as an important health problem in the
last few years. The AAA rupture often leads to sudden death or severe disability and is associated with high
morbidity and 80–90% mortality. The fact that the aneurysms are asymptomatic and its rupture occurs suddenly
makes the current clinical management of aneurysmatic patients face the challenge of the accurate assessment of
rupture risk. Due to these observations, recent researches have been focused on improving the knowledge and
the understanding of the phenomena associated with the formation and evolution of aneurysm pathology in
order to define whether other variables could be predictive of rupture. Based on this perspective, several
researches have been conducted in the literature recently. So, analyzing those diagnosis techniques can lead to
new development in this area. Accordingly, we present a detailed survey of 45-50 techniques from standard
publishers (IEEE, Elsevier, Springer etc) of the year from 2000 to 2017. Here, we classify the research based on
two different perspectives, like techniques utilized and type of disease. Also, accuracy of all the research articles
is also discussed to locate the improvement. Using knowledge gained from previous studies (experimental,
analytical and numerical), recent biomechanical results have focused on determining stress on AAA wall as a
more reliable factor for rupture prediction than the maximum diameter. Furthermore, the analysis is carried to
find the importance of their approaches so that the new development in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm diagnosis
can be easier for the researchers. Finally, some of the research issue is also addressed to precede the further
research on the same direction.
