Brittle Diabetes, also known as labile diabetes is a term generally used to describe diabetes which is very difficult to
control. It is usually characterized by wide swings in blood sugar in which blood sugar levels can quickly move from too
high (hyperglycemia) to too low (hypoglycemia). It is a total disruption to daily life where hospital stays are common and
may also prove to be fatal. Two of the most common devices existing in use are an insulin pump and the other is pancreatic
islet transplant surgery, both of which are invasive. Our proposed system is designed to be an automated, programmable
and non-invasive device that is for monitoring and treatment of brittle diabetes patients and is wearable as a finger probe. It
largely eliminates hospital stays, waste of blood, pain and other complications. The heart of the device is a non- invasive
blood glucose sensor using LED laser and photo-transistor. There are two interconnected units namely the sensing and
display unit and the infusion unit comprising of an Insulin-Dextrose pump.
