Abstract

In Mobile Ad hoc Networks [MANET], the existing distributed Intrusion Detection Systems [IDS] are not completely
distributed in its design. Though they collect data from distributed nodes, they analyze them centrally. In this paper, we
propose a Distributed Node Level Security Monitoring System for detecting and isolating attackers in mobile ad hoc
networks. This paper develops a detection method of Jamming and Spoofing attacks based on receiving signal strength.
MAC addresses can be easily spoofed in 802.11 wireless LANs. An adversary can exploit this vulnerability to launch a
large number of attacks. The solution consists of some phases. The first phase includes signal strength checking as well as
rate control and power control mechanism. The second phase includes support vector mechanism. This paper has
advantages in detecting the jamming attacks as well as giving a suitable solution for the avoidance.
