This paper presents the circuit level implementation of a voltage-controlled ring oscillator intended for low power
implantable medical devices. A new low power delay cell-based ring VCO is proposed using current starved technique
suitable for Medical Implantable Devices. A 9-Stage voltage controlled ring oscillator is designed using current starved
approach so as to obtain the target frequency band of MICS-Medical Implantable Communication Service Band 402-405
MHz. Along with the design, the conventional ring oscillators of 5-stage, 7-stage, 9-stage are studied and compared on the
basis of oscillation frequency , average power , and propagation delay parameters. This proposed
circuit configuration is realized in 0.18 m CMOS technology and simulated with Cadence Virtuoso Tool 6.16.
