Abstract

Introduction: Brucellosis is a common disease between humans and animals that is transmitted through infected animals
or animal products. The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological characteristics of acute and chronic disease
in patients referred to Yasuj Shahid Mofateh Clinic from September 2018 to March 2019.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted from September 2018 to March 2019 in Yasuj. The population
of this study was a sample of 82 people with brucellosis at Yasuj Shahid Mofateh Clinic. Data were analyzed by SPSS
software.
Results: In this study men (63.4%) were more involved than women (36.5%). The most common age was 50 years and the
most common symptom was fever (91%). 86.5% of patients had acute brucellosis and 13.4% had chronic brucellosis.
Conclusions: The high prevalence of acute brucellosis and the significant presence of chronic forms of the disease warrant
more attention to this disease and emphasis on disease education in ranchers and villagers on the methods of prevention,
symptoms, regular use of antibiotics, and complications of the disease.
