Abstract

Diabetes mellitus refers to metabolic disorders associated with chronic hyperglycemia with changes in protein, fat and
carbohydrate metabolism which results from faults occurring in insulin emission or insulin accomplishment or both. It is
the commonest metabolic disorder in the world and the foremost cause of disability and death. Complications of Diabetes
mellitus include chronic injury, failure and dysfunction of numerous organs mainly affecting the, kidneys, eyes, heart and
blood vessels. Various minerals and vitamins acts as cofactors in regulation of insulin secretion and action, among which
magnesium plays a key role. This research work focuses to assess the level of serum magnesium levels in Type 2 DM
patients and correlate serum magnesium concentration with micro vascular difficulties in Type 2 DM like diabetic
retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy and diabetic nephropathy.
