Abstract

This article attempts to study the relation between consumption of electricity or energy and Gross Domestic Product as a
measure of growth of the Indian economy. Several studies made earlier have proved that a positive relation exists between
energy consumption and GDP. The per capita consumption of electricity in India is 1149 Kwh, while in US it is 12,000
Kwh. India has to develop its sources of electricity generation to reach the level of developed countries.
