Isolation and Identification of Candida spp.on CHROMagar Causing Candidiasis in Pregnant Women and Antifungal Susceptibility Test

Abstract

Candida spp. are responsible of causation vulvovaginal candidiasis. The current study was designed to isolation and
identification of Candida spp. that may be cause vaginal infection in pregnant women and studying antifungal susceptibility
test. Atotal of 100 vaginal swabs,42 [42%] were positive for Candida spp., the frequency of these isolates was as follows:
19[45.2%] C. albicans, 13[30.9%] C. kruzei and 10[23.8%] C. parapsilosis. The colonies cultured on the SDA then
confirmed by culturing on Chromogen agar Candida which is selective media for these isolates. The antifungal
susceptibility test of the Candida spp. isolates revealed most of the Candida species were resistance to Fluconazole,
Itraconazole and ketoconazole but sensitive to Amphotericin B. Antifungal susceptibility test for Candida spp. isolates will
be very beneficial in epidemiology, handling treatment, avoid the appearance and distribution of drug resistance
