Prevalence of Antinuclear Antibodies in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease

Abstract

Background: Improper body response in inflammatory process is the mainstay mechanism in the pathogenesis of
atherosclerosis. Autoantibodies against atherosclerotic components such as oxidized LDL previously reported.
Aim of the study: To determine if there is any relationship between formation of Antinuclear antibodies[ANA] and
pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
Methods: 100 patients involved in this study divided into two groups, first group included 50 patients diagnosed by
angiography as having significant 3 vessels disease, the second one involved patients with normal coronaries. ANA
measured by ELIZA, any result below 1.0 IU/ml represented as negative and the values above 1.0 IU/ml represented as
positive.
Results: Positive ANA significantly seen to be more in those patients with significant 3 vessels disease than those with
normal coronaries [P-value:<0.0001].
Conclusion: Theincidence of positive ANA is more prevalent in patient with significant coronary heart disease than those
patients with normal coronaries.
