Effect of Storage Duration on the Sorption and Flexural Strength of Denture Bases

Abstract

The objective of this research was the determination of the denture cleanser’s impact on the flexural strength & sorption of
two categories of denture bases [cold-polymerized and heat-polymerized acrylic resin]. Sixteen disk-shaped [50×0.5mm]
and 48 rectangular specimens[65×10×3.3 mm] were gotten ready from the acrylic resin that was heat polymerized & also
from cold-polymerized acrylic resins as well. Specimens were deposited in salty water, acid/water, artificial saliva &
antibacterial cleaner. Solubility & Sorption were measured utilizing net sorption and denture base method’s ADA
specification # 12, whereas, flexural strength was calculated with the assistance of three point bending test and tested after
one and 180 days. The results on sorption showed the highest sorption for cold-polymerized base immersion in the
acid/water solution, followed by salty water. The heat-polymerized base showed the highest sorption in salty water,
followed by the chlorhexidine solution. The flexural strength decreased for the cold-polymerized acrylic resin differences
after 180 days' amount of 5.5% for two dentures cleaner, while flexural strength increased in the salty water by roughly
9.39%. The same results were found for acrylic resin which was heat polymerized. These consequences suggest that
sorption &flexural strength for denture based acrylic resins are effected by the category of used denture cleanser and type
of polymerization.
