Abstract

Visually impaired people often require support from a caretaker to move around and identify the objects for day-to-day
tasks. For indoor environments, a smart camera based system mounted on an assistive walker can help in automatically
following of pre-defined path and identify objects. Such indoor paths can be learned during the training of the machine and
followed later on. If the visually impaired people strays away from the pre-defined objects, corrective navigation inputs can
be provided to the user through predefined voice recordings. The proposed work presents a technique for an automated
identification of objects in a closed environment. The entire process is facilitated by employing image processing
techniques on a myrio platform. Smart camera is used to capture images of objects and process them to fulfill the above
objectives
