Abstract

Scholars and researchers in the field of linguistics
have probed on how culture and cognition have an
influence on communication. Language not only
serves as a means of communication but shapes our
whole thinking (Budagov, 1988). In his view the
language we are born into is by far the most important
part of our culture and without verbal concepts no
science would be possible, and without words as
internal means humans would have remained savages,
because words are 'the first and fundamental means of
progress‘ (Potebnya).Learning and usage of a
language depends on the meaning making process,
and the meaning making process is connected to long
term schematic knowledge that a child acquires from
the time of birth. The long term schematic knowledge
is formed as a result of the culture that humans are
exposed to. Innumerable research has been happening
on the connectivity of culture and Language.
