An analysis on traumatic effects after rape

Abstract

This paper attempts to explore the traumatic effects faced by the survivors after rape and also to understand the rape, and
the way it is represented in India. Rape is a serious issue affecting the human kind, looking rape from the perspective and
the influence of the society has greatimpact on the victims and it reflects only pain and shame for most of the times. This
paper aims to explore the social and cultural meaning towards rape and its consequences imposed on a victim. This paper
intends to analyse the character from AvinuoKire’s Short story ‘The Power to Forgive’ in the light of Judith Herman’s
Trauma and Recovery and also to bring out how social and cultural insights shape the life of a rape victim through a
psychological perspective.
