Effect of aspirin and clopidogrel on C-reactive protein in acute ischemic stroke

Abstract

Stroke is considered as one of major causes of disability and subsequent death. This study aimed to assess one of vascular
marker 'C-Reactive protein' response with usage of antiplatelet aspirin vs. clopidogrel in Kirkuk city. A prospective followup study was achieved in Kirkuk city in Medicine and Neurology department of Azadi Teaching Hospital starting at 1st
February 2018 ending to 1st December 2018, included 60 acute stroke patients. It had been found that there is an acute
elevation of CRP blood levels in both aspirin and clopidogrel treated groups in acute ischemic stroke patients and fall on
subsequent months. In conclusion, that there is no statistical significant difference between prescribing of aspirin or
clopidogrel treatment for acute ischemic stroke patients on CRP blood levels, as well known that CRP is one of prognostic
markers , so usage of aspirin or clopidogrel as monotherapy in secondary prevention had same prognostic value.
